life growing up for seraphina was relatively easy. she had been born the youngest of two children to a fairly well off family, and although her mother had been warned of the dangers of having another child, she was born regardless. the first thirteen years of her life were ones that she remembers fondly, when she was loved by both of her parents, brought up to enjoy the little things in her life, like being able to go outside and throw snowballs around with her older brother. she was brought up with an appreciation for music, and old movies that most of her classmates had never even heard of before. sure, it made her a bit of an oddball when she was growing up, but sera never really cared. she became the quieter member of the school's music department, the girl who stood in the background and danced to the beat instead of singing the lead vocal of the songs in the musical, and there she remained until she was sixteen years old.
as she entered her junior year in highschool, she found that she had not actually done unnoticed over the course of those years. sitting quietly in the pit band was one of her brother's friends, parker, who was a year older then herself. the two of them knew one another through seraphina's older brother, but they had never really conversed much over the past few years. junior year was when everything changed between them, and parker really came to notice seraphina as more then just his friend's kid sister. her brother wasn't overly pleased at first, but eventually he grew to accept the budding relationship that happened between his sister and his close friend, threatening the boy within an inch of his life if he ever hurt her.
the years they spent together went by faster then either of them realized, with parker encouraging her and helping her to find her sound as they endured the battles of highschool together. but then, only a month after she was accepted into belmont university, parker was on his way over to the house to celebrate their third year anniversary with a special surprise. he had been given permission by her father, despite his daughter's age, to ask for her hand in marriage. the ring was sitting in the empty passenger seat as he drove, a reminder of what the future would hold for the pair.
however, parker was never able to make it to the house that night. he was killed by a drunk driver only blocks from the house, and when sera and her brother rushed to the hospital after the accident, all the doctor's could do was apologize as they handed her the semi crushed box containing her ring. seraphina broke down on the spot in hysterical tears, being held against her brother's chest as she wept for the lost love that had taken her heart with it that night. two weeks later, her mother succumbed to a cancer that neither child knew she even had. the stress of the recent deaths proved too much for seraphina, who was all too willing to abandon her plans for school all together, but her brother would have none of it. despite their newly distant father, he insisted that she go to belmont and attempt to get the education that both parker and their mother would have wanted for her.
as of yet, she has not made a uniform decision either way, but she wears two rings around her neck on a silver chain. one, the engagement ring that parker was to give her that night of his death, and the second was the engagement ring that had belonged to her mother, the last thing her father ever gave her before he cut his children out of his life in the midst of his grief.
