intelligently cocky!
Holly is extremely intelligent, excelling in all her classes, even if she doesn’t always put her mind to it. Growing up around people prone to stupidity and generally the complete opposite of intelligence, Holly always strived to do well in school and remain at the top of her class. Always doing well and being at the top of her class quickly instilled Holly with a well oversized ego. She was smart and she knew it, and in her mind the rest of the population at school was, on a whole, dumber than her. As she grew older, however, her athletic ability brought her to the higher ranks of popularity, where her intelligence seemed to come as more of a hindrance than an asset. So instead she let her ego feed off her popularity and excellence in sports, allowing the intelligence to take a back seat. She still gets fantastic grades; she simply keeps them to herself.
iathletically competitive!
From the time she was a young girl, Holly always showed an affinity for any type of physical activity, whether it was simply running around the yard or regulated sports like soccer. She received her first ball at a rather young age and Holly took to it like a fish to water. She practiced with her first soccer ball so much that it was worn down less than a year after she got it, but that was all it took for Holly to know that she wanted to play soccer. They’d spend hours at a time outside practicing, so it was no surprise that when Holly tried out for the soccer team her freshman year she made the team. Although soccer remains her favorite, Holly is usually down for any sport when the opportunity presents itself, which is generally a good thing for whoever’s team she’s on. The only downside to Holly’s athleticism is that she tends to get competitive – sometimes overly so. She’s usually not a sore loser, however, and can appreciate a game even if she’s lost so long as she got to have fun.
ijealously loyal!
When it comes to friends, Holly doesn’t have many. She has several acquaintances, but more often than not she tends to offend more people than she befriends. Because of this, Holly has a very small group of close friends and she’s rather selective about who she’ll even consider trying to be friends with as well. Moreover, because her group of friends is so small, she tends to get overprotective of them if the need arises. It’s not hard to get on her bad side when it comes to dealing with her friends and Holly has no problem putting herself in the line of fire if she feels a friend is being attacked, verbally or physically. While this is often a good thing and often makes her a loyal enough friend, it’s not always virtue. Oftentimes Holly feels easily threatened in her friendships and is quick to become jealous. She dislikes feeling like someone is ‘stealing’ a friend from her and will go to great lengths to avoid situations where she feels like that. Though she claims otherwise, Holly is always a little paranoid when her friends make new friends, fearing their relationship will serve some purpose she could not. This jealousy tends to intensify when she’s in a relationship and although Holly has learned to control it (for the most part), her jealousy still gets the best of her sometimes.
iopenly charming!
When it comes to interacting with people, despite her usual distrust of the general human population, it can’t be denied that Holly is a charming individual. It may be the way she wears her heart on her sleeve, every emotion displayed almost as immediately as it occurs, but something about the way Holly presents herself draws people to her. She’s always down for a good laugh or a night out just to have fun and she’s not a girl to say no to anything. Although some people can find her emotions overwhelming and, frankly, rather girly in the instability of them, Holly often presents herself in a way that endears people to her other, less than charming, personality traits. Even those who dislike the girl can’t deny that, despite everything, at least she does everything in earnest.
iimmaturely honest!
If there is one thing Holly is not, it’s mature. She tries to act like it sometimes, sure, and she can fool teachers and parents, but when it comes down to it, she still thinks stupid things are hilarious and finds amusement in childish actions. She has no qualms about being considered immature because to her, it’s always funny. Another thing Holly has no qualms about is being absolutely honest with everyone – whether or not they appreciate her honesty. Not being a girl who learned a lesson in discretion, Holly is quick to point out other’s flaws (often while ignoring her own) and then ridicule them with guilt. This only reinforces her immaturity. Luckily for her, Holly managed to make friends with people who can not only tolerate her sense of humor, but who also find humor in it as well.
ijudgementally observant!
Holly is an extremely observant girl. Though she is definitely immature and does a lot of things just to get a good laugh, it doesn’t mean she doesn’t know what’s going on around her. Very aware of her surroundings, Holly takes notice of the little details most people miss, like commonplace habits people have and names and faces. And although Holly is observant enough to know what’s going on around her most of the time, it doesn’t stop her from being judgmental. Though she wasn’t raised in a high society oriented family, Holly is intelligent, attractive, and from a wealthy family herself. All of these factors contributed to make the girl rather cocky and arrogant and as a result, judgmental of others of lesser intelligence, looks, and even upbringing sometimes. She won’t outright judge someone to their face; however she does tend to avoid stupid and ugly people if she isn’t making fun of them. And, luckily for her, she doesn’t usually have to purposely avoid anyone with questionable upbringing or social stature because they usually fall into one of the first two categories and if they don’t, Holly can overlook their parents.
Holly was an accident. Her parents had planned their lives out meticulously and Holly was not part of that plan. Their restaurant was just starting out when Jenna found out the “good” news. At first she didn’t want to tell Gregory, her husband. He had already expressed that he was not ready for kids and she didn’t want him to get mad or blame it on her. Briefly, Jenna considered the idea of getting an abortion, but then she decided that she wouldn’t be able to do it, no matter how much of an inconvenience the unborn child would be. So reluctantly she told him. It was one night after a particularly busy day at their fledgling restaurant when she broke the news to him. For a few minutes Gregory was silent. Jenna was scared having already sort of grown attached to the small unborn baby in her belly. But then he nodded and placed one hand gingerly on her flat stomach. “We can do this,” he murmured. “Things will have to change but we can do it.” They already had one child and she was hard enough to take care of now they were about to have another.
Approximately nine months later a tiny baby girl was brought into the world. She was tiny and purple and wrinkled but when she opened her eyes to look at her parents, they instantly fell in love with her. Within minutes they had planned her whole entire life. She was going to go to a private school and get really good grades and eventually become a doctor. They had everything planned for her, just like they had planned everything in their own lives. But the way they planned things for their as of yet unnamed young daughter was not going to work out.
It took the young couple a long time to pick a name for the baby. All of the names they had thought of prior to the birth of their baby girl did not seem to suit her. So for a few weeks Holly was known as Baby or Baby Doll. Bells began to ring in her head and Jenna ran to find her husband in the kitchen. “What about Holly?” she asked. And then it was decided. They would name her Holly Anne, her middle name for a mutual friend of theirs who was also the baby’s god mother.
Holly was an ordinary child for the most part. She was well behaved and quiet for the most part. The times she was most vocal was when she was singing and her parents could tell from the get go that she might not turn out to be the doctor child that they wanted so badly. As soon as she started the all girls school it was clear that she was definitely not a middle brained person and that her areas of expertise were more in the areas of arts and music. While her parents wanted her to be happy, they didn’t necessarily approve of the extracurricular lessons she wanted to take like art lessons and singing lessons. They didn’t really mean to but they would put down the things that she liked doing. It wasn’t an openly to her face thing but if she asked for singing lessons they’d say no, or if she asked for art lessons they would suggest something more sciencey or mathy. Holly didn’t want to give up though. She loved her artsy style stuff and from a young age would save her allowance and lie to her parents so that she could attempt to enrol herself into art classes. When that didn’t work she would go to art galleries instead, sneaking out on her own to go see the pretty paintings and sculptures and dream about being that good.
Now lets fast forward a bit.... In what should have been her sophomore year, Holly got into drinking. It was sort of replacing the hole she was left with without her compulsive not eating. She was replacing one addiction with another, not that she’s addicted. She’s just almost addicted.
Holly mellowed out a little bit with her rebelliousness after that. She decided that she would start living for herself rather than her parents. She openly began painting and singing at home and would give her parents invites to art shows and recitals she was participating in. She bought herself a guitar and began to teach herself.
