history;
"My history is nothing special, I guess. I didn't grow up in an amazing house with two sports cars, my parents weren't madly in love and I didn't have alot of friends growing up. I guess you could say I was kind of nerdy; but hey, I had a small group of friends that enjoyed me for who I was. But, i'm jumping the gun alittle bit. Let's start from day one.
I didn't have a dad growing up. My mom got super drunk when she was at a concert, for what band i don't know, some local band i guess. She had a crush on the guitarist and since she had a V.I.P pass, she got to met him. Since she was out of her mind at the time, she didn't even remember how the hookup started or when she even agreed to such a thing. She'd always been a saint child. She left in a disoriented state and bam, nine weeks later she found out she was having me. She always told me about how hard it was to go through highschool, her senior year to be infact, while pregnant but she managed. Mom thought of getting an abortion but she didn't - of course she didn't! I'm here, aren't I? Haha. Grandma was nothing but supportive when she found out and when mom couldn't, she took care of me while mom was out working to support us so she wouldn't have to lean so much on grandma. I guess i had a pretty normal childhood, you know? Not spoiled, but i wasn't neglected. I was right in the middle; the perfect life for me.
Mom got pregnant again when i was five. I was gonna have a sister. I should have been happy, but I really wasn't. Life had gotten harder for us around that time. Mom got fired from her job because she brought me to work alot. She worked at some fancy resturant and they didn't want a crying kid there, because i annoyed all of the people dining there. She couldn't afford a sitter and Grandma had her own personal life and mom didn't wanna thrust me onto her like that. So, she stood up to her boss and eventually he fired her like she was a pebble to his shoe. He pushed her around alot, though. So I was glad that she got away before she lost her mind or something. Wait - I lost my place. Oh, right. The second pregnancy. I knew having a sister around would make things worse and since she was another product of a one night stand; the dad wasn't around. But that didn't affect mom. She said she'd make things up as she went along and everything would be fine for us.
I'd never wondered about my dad until Kady came along. I started to bug my mom about the topic alot more and she ignored it everytime until I started having serious tantrums. Finally, she sat me down and told me that I was actually an accident; but a happy accident. She said my dad was in a band, and around that time they'd pretty much become a household name; Like Green Day or Journey. At that time, i was excited. I mean, a rockstar for a dad? The idea was fucking sweet! But then mom told me that he didn't want a family yet. I was confused for lack of a better word; but i pushed it to the back of my mind until i was thirteen, which was when i started getting curious about it even more. I eventually looked my dad up and wrote him a letter, and he responded. He said that not staying had been a bad decision for him and that he'd make it up to me by visiting sometime. He kept his promise. I kind of regret that.
He was a slob. Terrible, really. He had alcohol problems and he did drugs. He came over high. Can you believe that? My childhood pretty much went right out of the door and thoughts of being able to finally have a dad followed them right out the door, out of my hands. Mom kicked him out and started to yell at me. Because yeah, I hadn't told her that I invited him. I apologized and apologized but mom never budged. Infact, she sent me to live with my Aunt for awhile so she could think some things over. I was still thirteen and my mom didn't stop thinking things over. About six months after she sent me to live with Aunt Darby, i realized she probably wasn't going to take me back. Things...started to go downhill after that.
News of Grandma getting cancer reached my Aunt's house faster than a Jack Rabbit. My Aunt took me to the hospital where she was and I stayed with her for awhile; and we shared memories. We talked and the idea of her dying was too much. I was watching one of my best friend's die; until one day when i went to visit her, she was gone. I was fifteen and I already knew what happened. No one needed to tell me or remind me. Mom wasn't taking the death well and apparently she wanted me back. As much as i did still love my mom, I couldn't go back. I loved Darby, too. And she needed me more than my mom did, who had Kady. My aunt was suffering through depression because of the death of her mom; and compared to her, my mom was as chipper as a bird. Things got boring after that, really. Nothing else happened after that point. I graduated highschool with a B average and moved out of my Aunt's house."
Personality from a friend's point of view;
"Dexter is such a sweetie! He'll do whatever you ask him to do. Sometimes I wonder if people abuse that because he seems to get bulldozed over quite a bit, really. But I don't think i've ever seen him without a smile on his face or a time when he wasn't a sweetheart. He's a great shoulder to cry on, too. When my boyfriend dumped me, he let me stay over for a few days and he ate ice cream with me. I kind of think he might be gay - he's a better girl than I am, sometimes.
I mean, of course he's a sweetheart. You've gotten that already. But no one is perfect. He also has some pent up anger inside of him and sometimes he'll run around in such a vexted state it makes me wonder what happened to him as a child. There was obviously some major let downs. He's kind of quiet, too. Especially around people he doesn't know. He's kind of like a turtle. Poking his head out with people he knows and retracting when he meets a stranger. Dex doesn't talk much about his dad, either. Kind of weird. Infact, he doesn't talk about his past at all.
He's also pretty artistic. By that, I mean he can draw and write. He tells me all about his dreams of being a writer when he grows up and i've read his stuff; it's pretty good! I think there's a future for this kid in writing books."
